Sunsetting a Supply Chain Management System

The Company

An organization that enables integration by linking business processes and data across existing IT systems needed to consolidate and integrate their supply chain management to meet budget reduction goals but without causing disruption in the supply system. Using Visualization Engineering®, IT Cadre provided an end-to-end Supply Chain Management System view by mapping out every system, interface, and connection across the enterprise.

What We Did

Using Visualization Engineering®, IT Cadre provided an end-to-end Supply Chain Management System view by mapping out every system, interface, and connection across the enterprise.

Once thousands of high technical documents were reviewed and stakeholders and users were met with, the full picture revealed that a legacy module had grown into places that were not part of its original charter.

Simply turning off the legacy module would have negative and costly consequences, so IT Cadre worked with the program to define a plan to retire the function of the legacy system without crippling the supply chain management process.

The Results

In 60 days, highly qualified engineers dove in and mapped out every system, interface and connection across the enterprise. Once the full picture was complete, the impact of retiring the legacy module was clearly understood. The team identified how the application had grown into places that were not part of its original charter. Simply turning “off” the legacy module would have negative and costly consequences.

IT Cadre worked with the organization to define a plan to retire the function of the legacy system without crippling the supply chain management process. The program’s new Supply Chain Management System avoided customer impacts with implementation of the plan IT Cadre helped create.
